so we are planning a trip to manitoba october 10-17th. we are bringing a good number of decoys with us, but we will decide what we are hunting based on the scouting we do...last year they saw a lot of snows up there while they were there and we've decided to take one day to hunt snows while we are there...i was browsing the regs and if im not mistaken, you can use ecallers in the fall in manitoba if your spread is only snows and blues...is this correct? anyone tried hunting snows up there in the fall? we want to be prepared for one full out snow goose hunt, so if we need to throw the ecaller in the trailer, it would be nice since i believe i'm the only one who owns a short reed snow goose call!

Where in Manitoba are you going?? We are heading to The Pas October 3rd and leaving Oct 17th or so.LOL.. We mainly hunt the water for divers but do hunt snows in the fields a few days if they are there. We had a dozen shells and then just ripped up old white sheets. Our most is 62 in a day. We usually average around 20 or so with 3 guys. And then some bonus canadas. I just have a small primos call and it works great, They not that smart way up there yet. I think you can use ecaller but have to have all white decoys if I remember right...

Unless they have changed it you must use a all white spread when using an electric caller. When they first wrote the regs you were allowed to take all legal game during the fall but had to use the all white spread. They had decided that the use of blue and other species of decoys would entice the other waterfowl in too much giving the hunters an advantage and all they really wanted to do was increase the number of lessor snow geese. But I am not going this season and have not read the new regs as of yet.

Just found this on the manitoba wildlife website
-During the fall general Migratory Game Bird Hunting season, hunters may use electronic calls with only recorded snow goose calls. If decoys are used with the electronic calls, they must represent white phase and/or blue phase snow geese only. No other decoys are allowed. Hunters may take any migratory bird for which there is an open season while using electronic snow goose calls. guess that answers my question |
