depends on the size of the caller...i really like the 12 AH SLA batteries. they weigh 9 lbs each. the caller i built for adam has 2 6V sla 4.5 AH batteries. The caller weighs under 10lbs with the battery and we ran it for 1.5 days without a recharge in sub zero temps. i stay away from heavy lawn tractor batteries and marine batteries. they are too heavy and don't last.

Altrocker
Were does a guy pick up the 12 AH SLA batteries you are talking about? Will they work to run a car cd player since thats what I run for my e-caller. Right now I use a cheap WalMart lawn tractor battery and it's heavy carrying out in the field and doesn't last extremely long either. Thanks

i usually buy them off ebay, to get the most bang for the buck and buy them in larger quantities....i think if you wire 2 of these together parallel it should run a cd player for a long time. interstate battery has them too and most farm supply shops carry them. i like them because you can turn them upside down and sideways and they will never spill. they are built more as a deep cycle battery (less cranking power, more long draw) than a cranking battery (lawn tractor style) so they could never turn over a motor, but work great for applications with a long slow draw

usually i use a small tender/charger. that way it avoids overcharging. if i remember its a one amp or 1.5 amp charger...they charge in about 4-5 hours when they are completely dead. it is a trickle charger...this is the one i use...you can usually get them at wal mart for 20 bucks...mines got quite a few charges on it and it still works like a gem
