This may be old news, but I saw several flocks of a dozen or two honkers flying today in Urbandale. It was good to see, I'm just hoping most of them had a good hatch this year.

Prolly young non-breeders if they are bunched up like that. Ames has several 100 juvies that are not breeders, that are here every year. A bunch of them stay and do nest here the next spring though.

I've seen everything from tiny fuzz balls to ones that almost have all their color this week. I think I even saw one still sitting on a nest I don't know for sure. I've also seen a couple flocks of a dozen or so nonbreeders hanging out.

ive seen a few good sized flocks around 20 or so and seen some pairs and smaller groups of 5 or 6 in fields.
Im not real sure but how often do nesters go out to feed this time of year or do they eat mostly the aquatic veggies around nest sites??? |
