Default season right around the corner

So is our group the only one not ready for metro season. Still haven't mudded or grassed our layouts. Most of the dekes are still in storage. Haven't dyed any raffia grass yet. Still tryin to line up ground. Only have one so far but atleast there landing there.

How covered does everyone do there layouts. This is my first year using one. Sat. we'll be hunting an oat field so its fairly green still.

I know this is after the fact, but for learning purposes...I don't grass in my layout blind until I'm out in the field. It might make you get up 15 mins earlier and take a little more time in the dark but it will help you blend in so much more using the natural vegation that is prevalent out in the field. As opposed to having dead/dying grass that sticks out like a sore thumb in a green oat field.

As far as everything else goes...no fields for me...haven't seen many birds flying and haven't asked anyone to hunt their field yet.

Well our group showed up at a field we were the only ones with permission to hunt at 530. Low and behold a trucks already there so we're sittin there figurin out what to do and a guy walks up and starts gettin all pissy sayin he's the only one with permission and basiclly ran us out. But what are ya gonna do that early in the morning. Turns out he didn't have permission for the metro season just regular season. So we drove around till noon trying to line with no luck

As far as covering up my layout blinds, I use a combination of KillerWeed and natural vegetation from the particular field I'm hunting on that day.

The KW is clipped on and can be taking off if I need to hunt a pasture but the colors of KW I use blend in to the surrounds that I most often hunt which are corn and bean fields. Once at the field, I then use corn or bean stubble to finish the blind up.

To me the nice thing about having a base layer of KW on teh blind is if something comes up and you are in a real hurry to get set up, you can just put the blind out and be concealed pretty good already.

100% Agree..no reason to buy vegetation..takes like 10 minutes tops to brush your blind in the field..and your 100 percent the same as your surroundings.
