Default Choke Tubes

There are a ton of different choke tubes out there today. What one do you think is the best overall???? My father bougth a Vortex xtra long range this past year and was really pleased with long shots and medium range shots. I have a full choke pure gold and I am 50/50 on it.

whatever one provides an even pattern with no holes or clumps and sufficient pattern density at the ranges you take birds at.

I shoot a briley extended light modified but I'm sure there are dozens out there that do a fine job.

I got a long range patternmaster this year and have really liked it. I have not printed it on paper but there have been some birds falling out there. I'm thinking I may pick up another, the extended long range, if I find an extra $100.

I've got a HS undertaker stuck in the gun I waterfowl hunt with now. It has been in the gun for a few years and seems to do the trick.

Have shot the orginial patternmaster and kicks high flyer in a Full....been VERY pleased with both. Something I noticed though in patterning, 1 1/8 oz loads, no matter what size of shot, neither liked real well out of a Browning gold or Benelli SBE. COMPLETELY different story with the 1 1/4 oz. loads or heavier. Found these loads to have a thicker wad, which I believe has a lot to do with it, especially in the patternmaster with the wad stripper studs. The other wads had torn spots in various spots on the wads meaning it was throwing shot off.

I shot the Hyper Sonic in 2s out of my kicks this year and we seemed to drop a lot of birds stone dead from 0-40 yards and a few farther. I saw benelli reach out with his extended range and knock a few out of the sky.

Really depends on the gun you shoot. Out of my xtrema I have tried ALOT of expensive chokes and for long range steel I have found the Carlson and Briley choke tubes out do any of the others. For turkey I use the primos jelly head it works well and for ducks and just normal choke for honkers I use either the factory choke or briley chokes.

Amen on the factory chokes. And IC is for people that can't hit shit. Everyone I know uses a hose gun. Flock of divers fly by and eleventeen ducks fall out of the flock. Rookies.

heard that!!! on the factor tubes that is. i didn't even know people put entended chokes in their guns for years beside to have that "super cool" ported shinny glair at the end of their camo gun that they insisted on paying an extra $300 for. second on the rusted in choke, dont mind full but i swing super fast after long nights at "work" and ic just doesn't do it for me (im sure ill hear something about this but it reminds me about people that used to bitch about crippled pheasants after lead was band and they were still shooting 6&7 shot) i my self perfer a rusted in mod. started with an 870 w/ a mod. and slowly progress through bps's and others till present, which i now shoot a sbeII with a mod rusted in!! i always figure just shoot um in the head and they arent going anywhere!! hated it when friends cried about not killing birds after they saw feathers come off. my response..... ummm... "give um another 6" then you wont have to worry about pullin feathers out of the breasts!" reminds me about the vet. I hunt deer with that pulls his moss. 20ga out of the same corner it's sat in for 20 yrs. uncleaned, sprays it with wd40 and cycles it a few times the friday night before slug season and laughs about everyone else is shooting copper solids and sst's when he's got more monsters on the wall then all the rest of the party combind!!! back to the point! if your a good shot your going to kill um, if not... good luck!

i always liked the factory chokes in my nova, however i haven't been super impressed with the chokes that came with my baikal...mixed with my horrible shooting, the combo has been pretty awful. i haven't patterened them against the nova, but there are certainly a lot fewer bb's in the breast. i am hoping to pick up some aftermarket's for it...i think a lot of chokes out there are good, but i will be primarily looking at brileys, wad wizard and kicks

All the guns I have shot I use a factory mod. I have not let the choke rust in my current gun YET.

Good to hear some of you still use factory chokes, I thought I was the only one.

After seeing on paper the difference between my factory and Briley mod's I only use the Briley for ducks and pheasants. It was absolutely devastating at 40 yards with #5 nitro pheasant loads. I guess after seeing the difference the factory invector + just weren't as good. I think an IM is gonna be next for geese.
