Thanked: 209 times | I know there are a ton of channel cat in the Des Moines River below saylorville. You also have a good chance at catching striper, walleye, crappie and pike from the rocks depending on the bait that you use.

I know below Red Rock Dam they hook into some monster flatheads 30-50 lbs. Same with Boxcar if you can locate where the old cars are at on the bottom.

I'm getting excited to get out on the rivers just waiting for the water to go down never fished the des moines been on the minnesots river pulled some big monsters out of there

Good to know some of these spots because I'll be living in Ames the next 2 years! Gonna have to get used to this river fishing stuff, been fishin spirit and boji the past 2 years.
