I thought it would be best to start a new thread as opposed to getting lost on page 8 of Bills post:
The quote below is the DNR rationale for the changes from what was proposed in March, note both zones have the same opening days now. The NRC meeting to finalize the waterfowl seasons will be Thursday Aug 11 at the Wallace building in Des Moines. Quote:

White-fronted geese: September 24 through December 6. Light geese (white and blue-phase snow geese and Ross’ geese): September 24 through January 8, 2012. Youth waterfowl hunt. October 1 and 2, 2011 south zone. For all ducks: September 17 through September 21 and October 15 through December 8. Canada geese and brant: September 24 through October 9 and October 15 through January 4, 2012. White-fronted geese: September 24 through December 6. I got one... but I never filled it out. To be honest, it was a combination of things and I should have done it. I had just moved/was moving into a new house... I had just taken a new job and was working 6x12s. I just never made the time to fill it out and the questions seemed pretty trivial. It doesn't help that last season I only got to hunt a handful of times because of the new job. I guess that makes me a scumbag waterfowler for not doing it but it's too late now...

Henry Wallace State Office Building 4thFloor Conference Rooms 502 E. 9 thStreet Des Moines, IA 50319 Starts at 9:30 am, the agenda says the public participation is at approximately 10 am but unless a miracle happens it'll be a bit later than that. I expect the actual vote on the seasons at about 2 pm but there's no way to know for sure. There is a difference between me and most post and its all about the number. I am good at pushing some buttons that propels the thread. Hell I just assume you guys say thank you and be done with it , however I will not hold my breath.

There was one thing Bill did have right in the other thread. The December numbers are skewed because of gun deer. I would be one of them. Last year was the first year duck season ran long enough past deer season that I could take really advantage of it.
The years before that it is always the Thursday after and with the style of drive hunting my group does I am normally wiped and need a one to two day recovery.

a new post is the best way to point out that changing the south zone duck dates also screws with the south zone goose dates. |

Instead it's really about giving the segment of hunters who like hunting late a reasonable opportunity to hunt the way they prefer just like all the early season guys get a good opportunity to hunt the way they prefer. and that's why the new survey hasn't changed anything, we knew last year more guys were out hunting in October than December, we've always known that, and the commissioners have always known that but we DID get the dates changed last year and if we get a good showing at the meeting and e-mails we can do it again. |
