Default Good luck this weekend guys

Well good luck this weekend guys. I have to work during the day all weekend so I won't be killing any geese. I'm from central Iowa, and I used to have some spots back home where I could go out in the evening and pass shoot a limit, but I haven't found any spots like that over here in Eastern Iowa yet. I can't wait for the first hard freeze. I hate mosquitoes.

Where the heck are you hunting? Sand lake? I use to live down there and the only place I know that holds 500 is otter creek.

nah, its a special place lol

the field im hunting has 6 ponds within 8 miles.. each pond is holding roughly 30-50 birds and the big pond has well over 200 (thats estimating on the low end)

its even better that they are comin in small groups of 5-8 birds or less in each flock and from every direction

if a guy could snag a field N or hwy 30 near otter creek, im sure youd see over 500 birds... havent looked at counts for geese there yet but i know there is a shit ton

I would avoid hunting the roost, don't know if you planned on it or not but you could shoot birds in fields around the roost for a week if you didn't touch the roost.

I think he was just talking about the geese going from the roost to the field. Not actually hunting the roost itself.

I'd believe it. I am from around Marshalltown. I talked to a buddy Wednesday, and he said they have 4 fields that are loaded right now. They have 15 guys going as of that night, and he said they expected easy limits. You might bump into 'em mallard26. You gotta hunt around the poop ponds.

Any one hunt up by new hampton. I got some land up there, thought about setting up a mini spread. I killed some there last year.

Cool nights and combines got me anxious with a week to wait.

A lot of fields were out on Highway 20 last weekend.

Can't wait to set the spread after a worthless metro season.

yeah actually i never hunt a roost... i kill them as they come off and into the fields. that concept is pretty elementary... trouble being this time that we couldnt kill them as they off the roost they had been stayin on... instead off the river.... after killing an 8 man limit on saturday, a guy stopped to see how we did... when he found out we killed 16 and easily could have killed more, he tore off and obviously pissed..he acted like we shot his dog or something .. i watched the birds leave and return to the main pond several days in a row last week and i have reason to believe that this guy kicked them off his pond the night before to break their routien and make them less huntable or predictable... this has been done before to us in the past.... damn PETA members!!! they can suck it

overall tho a good weekend tho... prob wont touch them again until thursday or so
