Need recommendations on how to get some geese to cross a road to hit a bean field.there hitting a big corn field now that I can't get into at the moment but have access to the half picked beans across the road. Hope to put out 32 full bodies and another 25 magnum shells. Am I missing anything else? I'm not a good caller but can do my regular clucks fine. I saw someone say they used a 15' pole to flag would this help? Thanks

Man I would throw EVERYTHING you have and can think of at em but that will still probably not do you any good. You may just get 1 or 2 young ones to peel off but I doubt that. I think you are SOL but hey who knows!

I agree with pheasent bring out every single goose decoy you got lol get a few callers more noise = more attention and try and get about 2 or 3 flags up in the air... Probably wont get em to come in but might come take a look....

Throw everything at them its all you can do, geese prefer corn over beans.

My advice. Your fucked, find another field. They know where they want to be, and if you arent where they want to be then you wont see much action.

This early in the year, I wouldn't throw all of your tricks at em just quite yet. These geese are not going to migrate south for a while. Chances are you are hunting local birds anyway. Point is if you show them all you have right now at day three of the season, you have nothing left for the rest of the year. If I were you, I'd use your shells and save the full bodies. To get them to look at you, use the flag quite frequently. As far as the call goes, you dont have to be a world champion to finish geese. I would like to think I'm above average at calling, but a majority of my calling is honks and a lot of clucks. I don't break out all the fancy stuff until I need to later in the year. I dont want them to know everything I got on day one. Vary up your speed and pitch. Don't make yourself sound like a broken record. In the early part of the year, the geese are stupid because we as hunters haven't educated them yet. They dont know decoy spreads, havent been shot at, haven't seen flags or blinds. They will come to just about anything. On the opener, I only use about six shells. Yes, it helps if you are where they want to be. If you can get a pair or single your way that is the best route anyway. Why educate a bunch of birds when you can only shoot two??? If you get skunked, you get skunked. You can't shoot anything sitting on the couch eating cheetos. That's why it's called hunting. Go get em and progress slowly during the year as far as what you are showing them. Change it up frequently and give them different looks. Trust me it works. Good Luck!! Huff

Maybe run your shells and like 6 fullbodies. Make it look like they're loafing out there post-feed. Give em a few lazy flaps like wing stretching. Wont know if you don't go but you will probably be bird watching.

Just curious, what's with the rainy day thing?
Do geese tend to work better in the rain? Fly shorter distances? Eat beans? |
