Default Back from NW Manitoba

Got back last night from the annual trip to The Pas Manitoba. My 7th time going to the area. The weather was less than ducky the first few days with temps in the 80s but we shot our birds every day. Despite no migration the birds were thick up there. They had ALOT of rain this year and the lake we hunt was at least 6ft deeper than any other year we have been there. There was also more blue wingers there than we have seen in past years. Even big flocks. We shot them 1 day then decided to let the pass the others. Dont drive 17 hours to shoot what we can here. Bluebills seemed to of had a GREAT hatch. That is what we go up for. It was nothing to shoot 5-6 bills a day each. The cans were there early but must of left or went to a different part of area where we couldnt find them. Alot of buffies and goldeneyes and we let them have a pass also. Hopefully the weather cooperates this fall, think it will be a great year.

There were a ton of blue wings in Saskatchewan as of Sunday too, canvasbacks and bluebills were also in abundance...in the ditches. You had to keep your head down in the spread to save it from decapitation via pintails and mallards. The clouds of cranes and snows in every other section made it hard to leave...truly a waterfowling paradise.

My Old Man just hunted finish a 4 day hunt in North Dakota this morning and they shot the heck out of the mallards and pintails. They killed mallard limits the first 3 days with 6 guys. Only other birds killed were pintails and canadas. They hunted all wheat feilds. He had a heck of a good time up there.
