I have hear different opinions on which brand and formula of food is best for very active working dogs... Will y'all give me some feedback on your food choices and any evidence that makes it the best... Price should not be a factor.

We used to go cheap ___chow until she had a poor coat and left a lot of yardwaste. Then we switched to Nutro from a local nursery/garden center and were very pleased. Turned all the negatives from the less expensive feed around. My opinion is whatever is making the coat look better (not dry, etc.) and creating less poop (the dog's body is using the food, not renting it) is the choice to aim for.

We feed Native from Kent to our dog, go to thier site for the info and right number for your dog as they have different kinds 1-4. No corn filler like other brands and it is priced good. The bad part is getting it, Thiesens or a Kent dealer is the most available place you can buy it. They say they are adding places to get it.

I use Diamond on my labs and my brother uses it on his shorthairs and it seems to work quite well.

My lab was started on Exclusive so I kept it that way. I have tried other brands with different results, poor coat, always hungry, not much energy. I'm not knocking the other brands but they just didn't seem to work with my dog. I did try native once with very bad results, she started shedding so bad I kinda freaked. She was also acting like she was starved all the time. Took her to the vet, he basically said to get her off of what she is eating. He did say it hard to change dog foods when they have had the same thing since they were a pup. Again I'm not knocking Native, it just didn't work with my dog. |

I always used Euk Performance Plan but couldnt get it anymore. Had a hard time finding Euk at all until the new Theissens store opened up a few weeks ago. They have all of th varities. I had them check and they said they could not even order the PP for me. |

If its approved by the AAFCO according to DU its suppose to be approved as being regulated an okay.
I am ashamed to say that I give my dog the Sams club brand like Ol roy, why you may ask? Because every other dog food i gave her gives my Choc lab diarrhea, Now I didn try the super high dollar foods, I did try, Purina dog chow, Pedigree bits an peices, Kibbles n Bits, Iams premium protection, benefull something and even that rachael rays food one my wife thought to try. So out of 8 foods the only two that makes my little girl have normal stool is Ol roy and Sams club brand. Great for the pocket book though, and she likes it I check every brand for the AAFCO, I dont want someone passing chicken feathers as protien |

I use a mixture of Exclusive large breed adult and performance. The reason I do this is to keep them on the higher calorie intake from the performance, and more omega 3&6 fatty acids, glucosamine, and vitamin E in the large breed for their joints, skin, and coats.
So you see what to look for in the food you choose, also make sure to feed food with high meat content to get usable protein. Brands actually matter very little...availability should be of more concern along with quality of content.

I started my dog on Enhance puppy and. it seemed to dry his skin out. I switched to purina pro plan performance and it has made a world of difference.
