Your right the first ingredient is corn but it is still a good diet. It is more about the digestibility and the availability of the ingredients in the food rather than the percentages. That is why food trials are important. A lot of the diet companies do not do food trials and just balance the diets on paper.

Vet told me that many dogs can have an allergy to corn and other grains so I switched to Native.
Shoppers supply on e 14th in des moines is $10 a bag cheaper than scheels and a 40 lb bag feeds my 2 labs for 1.5 months |

The Lab that I have now was raised on the cheapest thing out there no matter what the brand. He had the shits for a year and a half. I did some research when I got him and found out to look at the first ingredients listed. Also if you can get a food that lists Lam Meat, Not Lam Products. And no corn filler.
I first tried Blue Buffalo. I ended up with Sam's Club Exceed Lam and Rice. All the results ended up good. Intake, stools, and coat. |

Corn is just a filler and should not be at the top of the list in your dogs food. A meat product of some kind should be what you are looking for in the ingredients list and they should be at the top of the list.

I feed Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete. I would strongly suggest purchasing a dog food that does not contain corn.

Right now I think the best bang for the buck dog food is Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete. I have a pretty picky dog and he likes it.
Right now our local paper has 25% dog food up to $100, so I picked up a few bags.

A vet friend of mine told me years ago that it is very simple. Coat, Weight, and Stools. Diamond for me for years.

Good feedback all. You feed a premium food, you get premium results. Results meaning: good preformance, good coat, less waste. Look for meat being #1 ingredient. I too feed Diamond to all 3 of my labs, i use the high energy/preformance formula all year (i work my dogs hard all year). I chose Diamond because it had almost identical ingredients and fat to protein ratio as the Purina preformance for a lot less money (and you get bigger bags). What ever you do, don't let your dog get heavy (at any time of the year). Don't change your dogs food all at once. Mix it's current food with the new food you chose for a while.
