Default Bufflehead

Shot my first bufflehead this morning, a drake. Never seen one before so I check my waterfowl ID book and according to the book they are not generally in Iowa.

How many see/shoot buffleheads?

Usually shoot a bunch of them every year around Thanksgiving so there pretty common. There also a very pretty bird in my opinion.

Generally give them a pass, unless it is really slow. See several every year.

See at least a few every fall just normally when I am deer hunting or staying on the refuge.

Congrats. I have never shot one in the 30 years Ive been hunting, but my 11 year old shot one last weekend. I do see them quite a bit later in the season.

I've seen two flocks of them this year. We don't shoot them, but if my boy is in the blind he'll try for one, it's on his list.
