I want to know how much cover you can get away with? i'm hunting a used to be flooded area from Missouri flooding this year, and there is an island surrounded by water. The island doesn't have much cover besides a few logs and a little bit of cane grass but its near the waters edge. i was wondering if i just wore my camo and leaned up against a log would that do, or should i get something to lay over me?

You could get away with just leaning up against or behind a big log but build a little blind if ya can. I'd think about pulling my layout blind up on the sandbar if I couldnt otherwise hide.

You might get a few looks, but why wouldn't you brush up for a chance to see a few more birds? Stack the logs, add some grass and hide behind. Or take some grass mats, burlap or leaf-o-flage with you.

I'd say it all depends on how much the birds want in that spot. What I've found over the years is if you have the honey hole, you can get away with less concealment. If you are running traffic or a place that ducks dont really like, then you have to be on top of your ball game as for as concealment.
Like the others have said, I'd take advantage of those logs and cane grass and make something to hide behind so you aren't sticking out.

So did you kill any? I've burned two tanks of gas from onawa to akron with nothing to show but a single pair of honkers and a few pheasants.

I got one mallard hen this morning and that was it, i woke up this morning and it wasn't foggy, got down and set up decoys and got foggy on me. Sucks i couldn't see much of anything, only 3 birds today. I'm hunting in between sloan and whiting and i haven't seen much moving at all.

I personally like to brush up as much as possible without tearing down the natural vegetation around you. Haul brush in if you have to. Take the extra time to get it right, so that the birds won't think twice about coming on in.

I had a guy that could not use a layout so we put up a plain bail. He sat on it just with his old brown and tan cammo on. Stuck him under a Mojo. They eat him up boys. As long as your not rubber necking the hell out of them and keeping the face flash down low you can get them on top of you in a blink.
No place to hide when a field is as black as dirt and you stick a camo blind in it and it sticks out like a turd in a punch bowl. Matt you mean to tell me you have not gotten into those birds down at Badger? A bunch more showed up. Honestly I dont know how the hell you can get another one in the joint. I will be busting snow geese a new one along with some ducks in the PM. For all you web duck hunt junkies. Listen up. Am flight time is 9 to 11. Pm flight time 2 to dark. Dont try coming in late and fricken up everyones hunt. Birds are in the sky, just relax and watch the show. If you try to make it out you just screw up working birds and just may screw up the birds period and run them out of the hole. All I can say is this. Dont ever be late for the show.

Its always better with more cover. Build something in front of you at least, to hide your movement.Nothing worse than spooking them on finale approach Hopefully you can set up with a cross breeze that way they wont drop in facing you.
