I don't field hunt a lot. In fact I have probably spent more time reading about it than I have actually doing it. From what I have read those two sentences sum up everything I have ever read in two simple sentences. Think like a goose. If you are being hunted where are you looking? You want your blinds off to the side where the geese aren't looking. Well written, Abbas.

Thanks in advance.

actually that's one of the best hides out there right now, hunted with Murder on Sat, had blotchy snow spots, dirt, corn garbage. Thatched thickness according to what was on the ground and used snow spray in small patches and disappeared (birds at 5 yards), take a TON of time on the hide, it's all there on the ground for ya, just use it to match the backdrop.

I saw those pics on another site awhile back and have been wanting to get some of that netting ever since. Haven't yet though. I do have some material that's kind of like that but it's got a piece of brown tarp between two sheets of black netting. Looks likea good hide but I've never killed anything under it.

By the way, this weather still sucks.

Spot on.

When you scout, don't just find the X and leave. Watch the birds, listen to them, see how they are positioned, etc....

This was a video I took with my cell phone while we were deer hunting Sat afternoon. (SO never mind the back ground noise, but crank it up and listen) I was ready to eat the tags and jump in the field. Too bad the weather has changed now... But I'll be after them now again, tags are filled.

********EDIT********** Guess the embed didn't work....

One of the biggest mistakes guys make after putting themselves on the X is calling and flagging the geese as they make there way to the X.

How many times do you think they have seen that show?

Get on the X and let them come to the hole. If they pass you then hit them with the calling or as the bank and get a half look at you throw a little wing lift on the flag a few times and set it down.

If they pull up on the stick at 50 or 60 your not hid good enough. If they slid left or right they are cautious about the set. Split your set with a gap in the right side of it and a gap in the left side of it. They may come a lot closer and when they do shift left or right they will shoot those gaps in your set and that's when you bustem in the lips.

Many guys like to put the blinds right at the edge of the set up front with very few decoys. Fill it in 5 to 6 deep and between your blinds. High profile decoys that work great to cover your layouts are sillo's.

Another great trick is to pull the feeding Flock circle on them. They don't get to see this to much from average joe goose hunter but , if you watch geese who are feeding and who may be pressured they will come to other geese on the ground and drop right down almost on top of them in a tight ball. I call it the Donut. Set your spread in a circle with a few little holes in the middle. They drop like rain strait down without a thought.

Last and not least. When all that fails it tells you one thing. Its a numbers game and you have better be running 20dz at least. We sometimes put down nearly 60 plus dz. 3/4 full bodies and the rest shells. We mimic what they are use to seeing and coming to as the head to the X.

Fastest hunt thus far was 30 geese in 9 minutes and could have shot 300.
