Me and my buddy have multiple species of duck and goose decoys but I don't know exactly what would help to benefit us. We have green & blue wing teal along with mallards, pintail, black ducks, and Canada geese. I think that is all we should need for next year but anything ideas that will help would be appreciated.

We used to run a mix of puddlers as well. The only time we use anything other than mallards anymore is when we are hunting small ponds we will throw out some teal other than that it is just mallards or our diver spread. Really just depends on what you want to do in the end.

Thank you i never really thought about throwing out divers. So what types of divers do you think we should run? Or should I just get a puddler pack or marsh pack from cabelas?

Bluebills, cans, or bufflehead work great, I would any one of them, but i am no expert on the whole diver hunting.

Goldeneyes and buffies decoy to bufflehead decoys. The rest of the divers will all decoy to bluebill dekes.

You're welcome. I'm glad that I could help. I want to get two dozen G&H supermag bluebills next year before season starts. I run 6 GHG cans, 6 GHG goldeneyes, (the paint sucks) 12 FA bluebills, and 6 GHG ringnecks on the leading edge of a J hook for my diver spread. A guide once told me to try to put your goldeneyes in a place where the ducks can't see the bottom underneath them. Goldeneyes are a big water duck, so you seldom see them on a body of water that's less than 10 surface acres.

In the early season I will hunt with smaller dekes (teal or puddler pack) and smaller spreads but as it gets colder and later in the season I mainly use a mix of mallards and canadas and increase my spread size.

Depends on how big of spread you want to go. Later in the season we put out 18 to 24 mallards on one side of the boat and 5 to 7 dozen divers on the other side of the boat.

Where do you hunt is my biggest question. IMO diver's would be a waste of money unless you hunt big water often. I'm not saying that you can't kill divers on small water(thats the only place I've killed mine) but I don't think you will have enough to mess with decoying them.
Personally I run 2 Black ducks, 6 teal, and 12-18 mallards in the early season and late I run my two blacks and several doz mallards along with my 3 doz canada water decoys depends on where I'm hunting. |

Me, I like to use the decoys not many use specially late season. A lot of people use the usual mallards pinnies and blacks.
