We hunt Wright county (yes im his hunting buddy). I saw a lot of northern shovlers while out spring scouting. As well as some golden eyes and a huge amount of blue bills. Good post Ben! (should have told me i was at cabelas saturday!)

I would add Spoonies and add the pro hunter series deks in as well. I am pretty much just buying those now to add more realism to make it look like ducks loafing and feeding, ducks that are content and secure. Might also look at motion decoys, pulsators etc. just something to add the look of splashing and feeding. I am looking for some way to attach a power source to a bilge pump to make my own pulsator style decoy.

The best duck decoy is a goose decoy!

mainly mallards... with a few pintail and blacks here and there. pintails and blacks are weary birds.. more so than any other puddler. the white on the pintail gives a good visual from afar, as does the dark bodies on the black ducks...

i do have 1/2 dz teal and 1/2 dz woodies for walk in hunts and early season... but they are not needed to be honest

i dont use diver decoys but thats just me... we still generally shoot cans bluebills and ringnecks when they are around but i dont set up for them by anymeans

Pintails in Texas aren't wary.

Anyone can hunt mallards, but you have to be born a diver hunter. You have to really, really love to hunt ducks to deal with frozen outboards, rough water, and the hard work it takes to hunt divers.

The worst thing about growing old is that people no longer find you dangerous.
