Have had so many favorites through out the years that I forget. As for this year my favorites would be.
1st Banded drake mallard out of 22 yrs of hunting. 2nd Number 2&3 drake hooded mergansers of my alltime(Probably never shoot another as these are going on the wall and I don't want to eat any). Have only ever had 2 chances at shooting drake hoodeds in my life. This was pretty sweet my best day of hunting this year... Nov 11 could have filled the boat with mallards but off ducks were a little harder to come by. Anyhow sitting there and here comes 8 darts wizzin by, I immediatly went on point as I had diver blocks out they did a big circle around the marsh and headed my way but they really weren't to interested by the direction they were heading, flying over land versus my decoys. I gave them a few toots of my sexy diver drivel and they instantly banked and came right around 10yds high flying the diver line but not slowing a whole lot, at about 20 yds I picked out a drake bang got on the next bang whooooooooohooooooo! I was like Dirty Harry, John Wayne, and GI Joe. |

Mine would have to be this beautiful drake oldsquaw that my dad and I shot on a farm pond in Iowa. It was the only duck that we got that day but what a trophy it was. Got it mounted and just love looking at the bird to bring back that great memory of what my dad and I share. But all the ducks and geese I have shot are my favorites because I share the good and bad times with my dad.

Hard to pick just one because I have shot so many.
Now if I had to a choice for geese it would be the only whitefront I have ever shot. Between out hunting ducks, only have 2 3/4 fours in the gun, silent fliers, and one of the best retrieves my dog has ever made make this my favorite.

I love my black ducks. I'm pretty proud of the mallard X black duck hybrid that my wife shot out in Maine too.

My first Black Duck, came in with a flock of Mallards. Could pick it out plain as day. Cool thing was after 4 passes they wouldn't finish. Pulled out the Shoreman Goose call and honked them right on the water. Jumped them up and waited for the clear shot, beautiful drake.

Mine is all of them! I think every one of them are awesome and I can't wait til that next flock comes so I can do it again.
There are a few odd ones that stand out in my memory, but not necessarily my favorites. A big ole fat mallard, not even the kamikaze ones, but a good working bird. Put them in the hole, then go to work on them. Those are my favorites! |
