Default Introduction

Hey guys. I have been looking at the site for sometime now but just now thought I would join. I grew up in Northern Iowa, but came down to Iowa City for college. I have been hunting deer, turkey, waterfowl, and pheasants (before they became extinct in Iowa) for as long as I can remember and I absolutely am obsessed with it!! Last season, my buddies and I hunted the Cedar River and some small farm ponds and did ok. I am already looking forward to next season and can't believe its so far away. I am thinking about getting/making a boat blind and was curious if there are enough bodies of water around the Iowa City area to hunt with a boat to make a purchase worth it? What does everybody think? I am not looking for everybody to give up their honey holes, just curious where a few spots are with enough water to access with a boat. Looking forward to talking with you guys on here!!

Welcome aboard. Yes there is enough water in a normal year, there are quite a few in the IC that will let you tag along . As far as a picture go to the control panel and go to edit avatar.

Welcome aboard Hawkeye.

This link will take you to the Iowa DNR Interactive Map. It will show all public lands.

http://programs.iowadnr.gov/ims/webs...sic/viewer.htm

I've never hunted it but I hear Hawkeye near Iowa City can be good hunting and Cone Marsh is just south of there. Be prepared for an overcrowded experience at Cone though.

Good luck!

Welcome to the site. I did sort of the opposite of you. Grew up in the Ia. City area and now in N.central Ia.
There are a lot of boat areas down there. Some real skinny water like Weise Slough and others like the Coralville Reservoir.
