I have a great friend with an uncle that has made a commitment to habitat restoration/preservation. He has enough land that he could be a millionaire if he farmed all of it. 3/4 of his land is planted in native prairie grasses. It's like hunting a private hunting preserve, but the birds are wild. He and his wife live in a 100 year old farm house with ceilings that are only 6 inches taller than your head. He organizes and attends several PF, NWTF, and DU banquets each year. He is everything good about Iowa.

Its always good when people set the land up like that. Just wish there were more people like that and would be willing to let a few hunters have a chance to hunt every now and then. I have been considering leasing some land in Nebraska for next year

I only hunted up there twice. There are lots of birds, but they're hard to hunt in neck tall switchgrass, so I only shot 3. Nate shot 9 birds up there, so given the condition of the rest of the state we were happy.

Spend that money on gas to go to North Dakota. All the land up there is open to the public if it's not posted. There are tons of birds up there. I might try to make it up there this fall.
