Anybody have ideas on how to convert floaters to field decoys with some sort of stand?
I dont want to cut up any of my GHG's to run dowels through them, dont have any money right now to spend on converter stakes. Just something to do in the never ending off season.

You don't need stakes - if you're going to run floaters, just put them on the ground.

That's what we do. If you want you can always dig out a spot for the keel to rest in the ground.

Another question are hens that important in field hunting? And would 2-3 dozen floaters on the ground two mojo wing thangs and one baby mojo with roughly 21 goose decoys work?

The mojos by themselves are almost enough.

mojos+goose decoys=mallard killing set up.
Fullbody ducks are the most over rated decoy on the market. |

Agreed. This fall I had an instance where I was in a rush and carried nothing but my gun in one hand and a mojo in the other into a field and was done in about 5 minutes. Birds started landing around the pole and would just start feeding-it doesnt take much when on the X. If you are running traffic I would try to make the biggest dark spot I could, numbers are your friend & I wouldn't worry too much about an equal ratio of hen to drakes but more about location.

Krugers field hunt tactics:
Find field. Enter field with spinner and 12 mallard sillosocks. Plant spinner and turn on. Leave field. Find pond. Approach pond from damn side. Climb damn. Shoot ducks on water. Let wind blow dead ducks to shore. Pick up ducks and return to field for photo op. |

Im going to hijack my own thread. Where do you guys put pintails in a field set up? I have 3 GHG magnums and about a dozen old flambuea that a guy my dad works with gave me. Just thinking terms of visibility since no standing decoys will be used.

I would put them out front in a group together. I'd guess the white should be more visible? Just my thinking.

Would magnum GHG duck decoys sit on top of the corn stubble (going sideways) to look like a upright or active duck? I plan on doing that with the GHG over size goose floaters. Just didnt know if they would be long enough
