Default Has anyone done a self guided hunt to the Riverton area?

Hey guys,

My cousin is trying to talk me into going on a self guided snow goose hunt in the Riverton/SW IA area? He says that its really easy to obtain land down there because the snow geese are such a nuisance? Just dont want to head down there to be let down. Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Swampy

all depends on where you are at...the fields that are close to riverton are untouchable, almost ALL of them are leased. once you move a little ways out from the refuge it gets easier to get permission. get a plat book...you can find places to hunt, but when the birds are there it gets crowded. stay positive, be friendly and be ready to run around looking for the actual owner of the field. spend at least 1 day learning what the birds are doing, then try to get on somewhere...

just out of curiosity...what are you taking for decoys and how many? if you don't have a lot, its probably better to go a little later

Well we just bought a snow goose set from AJB, so that put us in about the 300 range. Theres a guy that might/might not go and he has roughly another 300. But im trying to get ahold of a couple more hundred or so.
