So, it seems that our lawmakers are one step closer to raising the gas tax. For those of you who don't know, our state loses out on millions of dollars in federal road funding every year because we are one of six states that don't currently have a helmet law for motorcyclists. (If the legislature enacted a helmet law we would receive this funding, and there would be no need to raise the gas tax.) So, given a choice would you rather see the gas tax raised or see motorcyclists be forced to wear helmets which has been proven to save lives? I know that some people say that it should be an individual choice, but people used that argument when seat belt laws were first enacted too even though seat belt usage was proven to save lives. It's obvious where I stand, but I just want to know what everyone else thinks.

I just bought a Harley and before I rode it I purchased a helmet. There are so many types of helmets out there that are comfortable. I chose the helmet. Screw the tax we are taxed on everything.

i agree with dukkilr...i feel much safer in my truck without a seatbelt on compared to on my motorcycle without a helmet on. If there is a law to make me wear my seatbelt, they better make a law for helmets instead of taxing us on something else!!

I ride a lot, put On a lot of miles on my 1300 last summer. I always wear a helmet and would encourage everyone too. Helmet law over tax any day.

Personally, I have never worn a helmet unless snowmobiling or riding dirt bike. But I would take a helmet law over a tax increase.
I just don't see the correlation though? There tax breaks are a form of manipulation to me. What does wearing a helmet have to do with gas tax? |

I think what is implied here is that they want to raise the tax on gas by 8 cents a gallon for road repair money, but in turn we dont get a certain amont of federal funding by not haveing a helmet law, so if they pass a helmet law the state would get x amount more money from the feds for roads so they wouldn't need a tax increase

this isn't any different than when the state was forced to lower the OWI limit from .1 to .08 or loose money
