any reason the late zone along the missouri river is so small compared to the ones around the river systems in center of state?

The amount of moist soil and shallow water habitat between I-29 and the bluffs is the reason that area had been excluded. That decision was made between entities working on the MO Valley Zone and the biologists in that area and simply incorporated into my zone.

The whole concept is to not include areas into the late zone that generally freeze early. Are there opportunities outside of the drawn up late zone? Of course, but you also lose earlier season opportunity when you include early freezing areas.

It's a fine line of compromise...
