Default Marine Battery

If I use a 1 amp 12 volt charger for my marine battery that runs my trolling motor. How long would it take to charge it do you think. My charger has nothing on it that will tell you when its done? I heard like twenty four hours or longer because it is only a 1 amp charger. Need some help.

If it is a Deep Cycle battery that is the only way you should charge them. I only charge mine with 1-2 amps. They can take up 2 days to charge. That is all I use is deep cycle.

I keep a trickle charger on them once a month in the winter. I think they will last longer if you keep a charge to them instead of letting them go completely dead over the winter.

A deep cycle battery that freezes when it's dead is next to impossible to bring back to life. A "battery tender" is a great little device for a deep cycle battery in storage.

I forgot about these. I have one of these on my fishing boat, and Atv. They trickle a .75-1 amp to the battery at all times. If you watch websites I don't think i paid more than 20 bucks for it. Better than a $100+ dollar battery.

If you run a maintenance charger system through the off system your batteries will be fine for the next season. If you charge your batteries every 60 days like I do a 10 to15 amp auto shutoff charger is the answer. NAPA offers a good one for under a 100 bucks. My marine batteries for cranking or trolling last 4 to 6 years. Been running INTERSTATE brand since 1981.

So you think like two days then for a good charge. I actually left it charge for probably close to 36 hours. It was pretty dead though. Was trolling with it all day with the new trolling motor I got. So how long do you think a brand new minn-kota 40 lb thrust trolling motor should last on this battery. I went and already bought a second battery just in case though, im not getting stuck out there catching fish and have it go dead, lol.

Thanks for the input guys.

I also don't know if its a deep cycle or not. The only thing this battery says on it is MARINE BATTERY. It was a cheapy my dad got I think a few years back to hook up to the go devil. Never even used it though. Just sat in the garage until now. I used it the first day I go the trolling motor and ran it dead in about 4 hours. Think I should have charged it first or do you think it was a good idea to drain it, then charge it.

It does a marine battery good to draw them down before charging. If you run off the top 25 to 35 percent of charge batteries develope a barrier. The result is poor life on a charge. Most batteries tagged marine are deep cycle. Some however are just cranking batteries.

A charger with auto shutoff is best. Let it charge until its full and it will automatically shut off.
